Water Monitor |

| Moderately
large monitor; tail long and extremely laterally compressed,
bearing double- keeled vertebral ridge. Ground colour
dark olive-brown to olive-grey marked with numerous very
small dark-edged pale grey to pale yellow spots on body,
limbs and base of tail. Lips and side of neck yellowish
brown. |

| Large robust
Pogona with well-developed 'beard', strongly depressed
body and broad head. Interior of mouth usually pink. Ground
colour shades of grey, brown, reddish brown to bright
orange. Pattern prominent on juveniles; obscure to absent
on adults. |

| Males are
subject to extensive geographic variation in colour, pattern,
and to a lesser extent, size. Females do not vary markedly.
Females and juveniles: Ground colour brown, brownish grey
to grey (reddish brown in Gawler Ranges), fading to paler
shade of ground colour or cream on lower flanks. |
