DESCRIPTION: Ground colour pale or dark grey, brownish
grey to dull reddish brown. Juveniles and populations from eastern half
of range tend to have less red pigment. Pattern usually obscure to absent,
particularly on adults. When present, paravertebral series of large
elongate pale blotches extend from nape to hips. Similar lateral series
may also be present. Belly of mature males black. This usually extends
onto lower flanks. SVL 250 mm.
PREFERRED HABITAT: Subhumid to semi-arid grassy
woodlands and dry sclerophyll forests from Kimberley region, WA, across
northern NT to northern and eastern Qld, extending as far south as
Brisbane.
MICROHABITAT: Most of time is spent on trunks and
limbs of standing trees. Frequently descends to ground after rain.
