DESCRIPTION: Moderately slender tree snake. Several
distinct colour forms occur. ( NT form shown in picture - referred to
as a 'Night Tiger' ). Ground colour may be black (common from Townsville
to mid-east Qld), bright yellow to yellowish-brown merging to pale bluish-grey
on head and neck (predominant through northern Australia), olive-green,
dull green to blue-green (common eastern Australian form) and pale to
sky-blue (uncommon, though widespread). Ventral surfaces usually yellow
(occasionally greenish to whitish), generally most intense on anterior
body. TL 1.2m. Distinguished from D. calligastra in lacking dark anterior
lateral streak. Differs further by build (relatively more robust vs
slender) and eye-size (relatively smaller vs large).
PREFERRED HABITAT: Northern Australia, from Kimberley
region, W.A. to Cape York and Torres Strait islands, Qld., extending
south on east coast to Illawarra Scrub of south-eastern N.S.W.
MICROHABITAT: Shelters among foliage, in hollow
limbs, rock crevices and caves. Common in any suburban areas throughout
range.
